3.It has a broad range of practical applications.
4.It reduces pest and disease incidence, suppresses weeds.
5.Saves about 20-50% of fertilizer usage.
6.Reduces the frequency of fertilization; no need for fertilization during the mid and late stages, which can cut labor costs by more than 30-60%.
7.Saves seed usage, ensures uniform and strong seedlings, with well-developed root systems, lowering production costs.
8.Ensures uniform germination and consistent growth of seedlings.
9.Using nursery trays/seedling trays eliminates the need for a greening period, potentially speeding up crop maturation by 15-30 days.
10.Can be used in conjunction with various manual and automatic seeding machines, facilitating centralized management and improving work efficiency.
11.Contains rich nutrients beneficial for seed development, cultivating “full-root seedlings” that do not suffer root damage during transplanting, leading to rapid seedling recovery and high survival rates (with transplant survival rates close to 100%).

Production Cost of Paper Nursery Trays

The purchase price of waste cardboard is 900 yuan/ton, processing costs are 200 yuan/ton, and other expenses amount to 100 yuan/ton, resulting in a total production cost of 1200 yuan/ton. Each paper nursery tray weighs about 150 grams, and one ton of raw material can produce approximately 6660 paper nursery trays, with a production cost of 0.18 yuan per tray. After including the company’s profit margin, the selling price is 0.2 yuan per tray.

Production Cost of Paper Nursery Trays Compared to Plastic Nursery Trays

Currently, most rice seedlings are grown using plastic trays, requiring 25 trays per 667 m² for mechanized transplanting, costing 0.72 yuan per tray, totaling 18 yuan, which can be used three times. Excluding losses, this translates to 6 yuan per use. If using plastic trays for hand-sown seedlings, 50 trays (434 cavities) per 667 m² are required, totaling 36 yuan, also usable three times, translating to 12 yuan per use. Vegetable nursery trays with 100 cavities cost 1 yuan per tray, requiring 30 trays per 667 m², totaling 30 yuan, also usable three times, translating to 10 yuan per use. The cost of paper rice seedling trays is 0.2 yuan per tray, requiring 50 trays per 667 m², totaling 10 yuan. Paper vegetable nursery trays require 100 trays per 667 m², totaling 20 yuan. While the cost of paper trays is slightly higher, they are disposable, do not require cleaning or storage, and can be left in the field as organic fertilizer after use, contributing to environmental protection.

Application of Paper Nursery Trays in Production

1 Application in Rice Production:
Paper nursery trays (fruit tray style) can be used for rice mechanized transplanting. In the Nantong region, sowing occurs in mid to late May. The nursery trays are placed flat on a leveled seedbed, arranged in rows of 4-5. The rice seedling substrate is then filled into the trays, watered, and sown (seeds should be soaked and germinated beforehand). After sowing, the seeds are covered with fine soil, and the trays are covered with film and straw to maintain warmth and moisture. After 3-5 days, the rice seedlings emerge, at which point the straw and film are removed, and water is supplemented as needed. The seedlings reach an age of about 20 days. The resulting rice seedlings are similar to those grown in plastic nursery trays, with a height of about 15 cm, a stem thickness of 0.25-0.3 cm, and about 0.5 tillers. The seedlings can be directly pulled from the nursery trays and transplanted by machine in the field.

2 Application in Vegetable Nursery:
Mainly used for solanaceous and cucurbit vegetables, using 30-cavity paper vegetable nursery trays. The trays are placed flat on a leveled seedbed, arranged in rows of 4-5. The vegetable seedling substrate is filled into the cavities, watered, and sown. The seeds are then covered with a mixture of substrate and fine soil, and the trays are covered with film to maintain warmth and moisture. After germination, the film is removed, and water is supplemented as needed. Solanaceous seedlings have a seedling age of 40-50 days, while cucurbit and leafy vegetable seedlings have a seedling age of 20 days. The seedlings can be directly pulled from the nursery trays and transplanted into the field. The trays decompose in the soil and serve as fertilizer.

Production of Nursery Tray Machine

The nursery tray machine production process involves shredding various waste cardboard into pulp, which is then shaped into nursery trays using an egg tray packaging machine equipped with improved tray molds. The trays are then dried or sun-dried. The production process is as follows: Shredding waste paper → mixing with water to create pulp → filling the vacuum forming machine to shape the trays using molds → drying (or sun-drying) → packaging and storage.

The bottom of the cavities in paper nursery trays does not require holes, as they can absorb underground water and nutrients. After sun-drying, the paper nursery trays are packaged in bundles of 100 for sale. Currently, 30-cavity vegetable and flower trays can be produced, each measuring 30 cm in length, 30 cm in width, 5 cm in height, with a tray thickness of 0.3 cm, and a cavity diameter of 5 cm and depth of 5 cm. It should be noted that egg trays themselves can be used as substitutes for vegetable and flower nursery trays, though they are prone to root spreading. Additionally, rice seedling trays for mechanized transplantation can be produced, each measuring 30 cm in length, 30 cm in width, 2.5 cm in height, with a tray thickness of 0.3 cm. Other tray specifications can also be produced by first designing the required mold specifications.

Nursery Tray Machine Molding System

1.Pulp from the supply tank is fed into the forming machine, where it is adsorbed by a vacuum system. The pulp adheres to the mold, forming the desired shape, while the white water is absorbed by the vacuum pump and returned to the water tank.
2.After the mold adsorbs the pulp, a transfer mold uses positive pressure from an air compressor to blow the molded product from the forming mold onto the transfer mold, which then delivers the product.
Equipment Used: Forming machine, molds, vacuum pump, vacuum tank, water pump, air compressor, mold cleaning machine.

The use of the nursery tray making machine enables the recycling of waste materials, reducing pollution. As is widely known, most egg trays are made from waste paper, and the nursery tray forming machine integrates these waste materials into egg trays, reducing resource waste while protecting the environment, aligning with current living standards. By simply changing the molds, this equipment can produce various molded pulp products such as fruit trays, egg trays, egg cartons, coffee trays, industrial packaging trays, shoe supports/shoe trays, etc. Our company can customize products to meet users’ needs.
